Capt. Martin Lim was born in the state of Selangor, Malaysia in the year 1972. He was an ex-master mariner who has sailed the world for more than 14 years. During his tenure at sea, he contributed to the world society by transporting cargoes across the ocean. The carriage of cargoes at sea like the liquefied natural gas, vehicles, containers, crude oil or solid bulk like the soyabean grains and coal that requires special management and care, Capt. Martin Lim assured these cargoes arrive safely at each port of call as well as the general safety of the crew members.
As a master of all trades, he gained invaluable sailing experiences with respect to onboard ship management, safety of navigation, close-loop communication with the multinational offices and shipping agents, marine weather appraisal, safety of life and cargo at sea and exercising the international business and law for ship at sea.
After retiring from the career at sea, he continues to embark on challenging career in the port safety and management as a maritime pilot that serves port and harbour in Malaysia, including business management, customer care, environmental and technological activities that had formed as an integral part of his passion.
He is the founder of the renowned national organization of Malaysia’s professional maritime pilots, the Maritime Pilots Malaysia (MPM) in 2016. Through his pacesetter, dynamic and transformational leadership style, Capt. Martin Lim successfully transformed MPM to be a dynamic and distinctive professional organisation in Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region.
Today, MPM established a close working relationship and communication with governmental and private entities that includes the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, The Ministry in the Prime Minister Department including crucial governmental agencies i.e. Marine Department of Malaysia, Immigration Department of Malaysia, Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Port Klang Authority (PKA), Johor Port Authority (JPA), Penang Port Commission (PPC) and more.
The proposition by the Maritime Academy of Malaysia (ALAM), the renowned maritime training centre in Malaysia in 2025, that seek recognition from MPM as the maritime pilotage training centre unveiled a milestone achievement where in 2026, MPM officially extended its recognition to ALAM and at the same time inked close- collaboration and cooperation between the two organisation to drive excellency in maritime pilotage training and continuous professional development.
His in-depth indulgence and passion to the sea and its marine life had inspired him to contribute to maritime environmental care that protect, preserve and restore the maritime environment through RMEA, which is a signature environmental program of MPM.
The Royal Maritime Environmental Awareness program (RMEA) was launched by HRH Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj on the 8th September 2018 at the Royal Selangor Yacht Club.
Through the decades of knowledges gained and confronted experiences in the maritime and shipping industry, Capt. Martin Lim is steadfast and inspired to led a new pathway that open opportunities for him to contribute extensively and effectively to companies and corporation in the maritime sector to align Malaysia as one distinguished successful maritime nation.
