ADJ. PROF. NAZERY KHALID

A prominent maritime expert, distinguished academic, a certified trainer and industry leader with vast experience. An Adjunct Professor at University Malaysia Terengganu and Taylor's University and an ELITE@UM Fellow at Universiti Malaya. His areas of expertise include the maritime industry and trade, logistics, supply chain management, strategic studies, international relations and business development.
Nazery Khalid is a prominent maritime, logistics and supply chain management scholar, writer and commentator. He has participated as a speaker, moderator and panelist in over 300 seminars, conferences and summits on the topics worldwide.
He has published over 350 articles in print (including refereed journals and chapters in books) and online on a wide range of maritime and logistics topics.
Nazery came to prominence in this field at Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA), a policy think tank under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, where he served as Senior Fellow / Research Coordinator and Head of Center of Maritime Economics and Industries from 2004 to 2014.
During that time, he was a Visiting Scholar at Bahria University, Karachi (2008), Cardiff Business School (2010), University Paris Diderot (2011), National Institute of South China Sea Studies in Hainan, China (2013) and Sun Yat Sen University in Guangzhou (2013).
Nazery is currently an Adjunct Professor at Faculty of Ocean Engineering Technology and Informatics at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and in the Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) in International Relations program, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Taylor’s University; and an ELITE@UM Fellow at Department of South East Asia Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya.
He taught Maritime Economics to MBA in Shipping Management students in Universiti Malaysia Selangor in 2008 and Maritime Logistics in the Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) Global Supply Chain program at Sunway Business School, Sunway University in 2020.
As a mark of his standing as a subject matter expert in the field of maritime in Malaysia, Nazery is regularly invited by conference organizers, organizations and higher learning institutions and universities in Malaysia and abroad to give lectures on various areas in the maritime and logistics sectors.
He also represented the country in meetings at International Maritime Organization in London and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, and was a key member of the Malaysian delegation at ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group meetings.
He sat on the Advisory Panel of Netherlands Maritime University College (NMUC) Malaysia and Yayasan Peneraju, a Malaysian Government agency promoting education and training. He held the post of Honorary Secretary, Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM) from 2015 to 2018.
Nazery has amassed a total of 35 years of working experience, namely 15 years in the financial services industry, 10 in policy research and 10 in Corporate Communications in Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation, a company listed on Bursa Malaysia.
Nazery is a Certified Trainer under HRD Corporation Malaysia and has carried out training courses in the maritime and logistics sectors. He holds an MBA from International Islamic University, Malaysia (earned in 2000) and a BA in Business Administration from Ottawa University, Kansas, USA (1990).
He was conferred with an Honorary Industrial Doctorate in :Logistics by Netherlands Maritime University College (NMUC) Malaysia in 2025.
